Potty Training

Navigating the Potty Training Journey

Potty training often comes with a mix of questions, concerns, and advice from well-meaning family and friends. At The Learning Pavilion, we understand that this milestone can sometimes feel overwhelming for both children and parents. Our goal is to provide an approach rooted in support, patience, and your child’s individual developmental needs to make the process as smooth and successful as possible.

Our Philosophy

At The Learning Pavilion, we focus on the social, emotional, and cognitive development of every child. While each child and family approaches potty training differently, one crucial consideration guides our approach—the fragile toddler ego. Helping your child feel in control and confident during this phase is essential. Our philosophy prioritizes developmental readiness over arbitrary timelines, creating a positive and pressure-free environment for learning.

When is the Right Time?

Most children show initial interest in the potty before the age of two but may not be fully trained until 30 to 36 months. The first step is to create a playful, stress-free introduction at home, allowing your child to explore and mimic potty behaviors naturally.

Potty Training at School

While prompting at home may work, our approach at school relies on the following:

  • Readiness: Your child needs to show genuine interest in the school setting.
  • Communication: Language or other forms of expression are essential for signaling potty needs.
  • Positive Reinforcement: Teachers offer the potty when interest is shown, incorporating potty-themed stories and discussions without coercion.

This process ensures that potty training is a child-led experience, fostering independence and confidence.

Nap Time Considerations

Even after being fully potty trained, children may wear diapers or pull-ups during naps if they experience accidents while sleeping. This is a natural part of the process, and we are here to support you and your child every step of the way.
